Prompts
25 questions to ask ChatGPT or Claude about your Garmin data
Once your Garmin is connected, the hard part is remembering you can ask anything. These are the prompts our users come back to. Copy, paste, adjust the dates.
Recovery and readiness
- "Morning check: sleep duration and score, HRV vs my baseline, Body Battery, training readiness. One paragraph, then tell me whether to do today's planned hard session."
- "Show my HRV for the last 14 days next to my training load and sleep hours. What's dragging it down?"
- "Which days this month did I wake with Body Battery under 40? What did I do the day before each one?"
- "Is my resting heart rate trending up or down over the last 8 weeks? Is that good?"
- "Compare my stress levels on work days vs weekends this month."
Sleep
- "Break down my last 7 nights: deep, light, REM, awake, and sleep score. Any pattern?"
- "On nights I slept under 6.5 hours, how did the next day's readiness and workouts look?"
- "What time do I usually fall asleep and wake? How consistent am I?"
- "Does my sleep score correlate with evening training vs morning training over the last two months?"
Training analysis
- "Summarise my running for September: total km, number of runs, longest run, time in each HR zone, average pace. Compare with August."
- "Pull the splits from my last long run. Where did I fade, and was it pace or heart rate that moved first?"
- "Look at my last 6 weeks and tell me honestly whether I'm doing too much intensity for a base phase."
- "Which of my runs this year had the best pace-to-heart-rate ratio? What were the conditions?"
- "What's my current training status and load focus according to Garmin, and do you agree based on the actual sessions?"
Racing
- "What does my race predictor say right now for 5k, 10k, half and marathon? How have those moved since January?"
- "Compare the splits of my last two 10k races and tell me which pacing worked better."
- "Based on my VO2 max, lactate threshold and recent long runs, what's a realistic half marathon target for 8 weeks from now?"
Strength and cycling
- "List my strength sessions from the last month with the exercises and sets. Which muscle groups am I neglecting?"
- "Summarise my cycling this month: hours, distance, elevation, average power if present, time in power zones."
- "How many kilometres are on my current running shoes according to my gear list? Which pair should I retire?"
Planning and logging writes
- "Build Thursday's session: 15 min warm up, 6 × 800 m at 3:40/km with 2 min jog, cool down to lap button. Show it as a table, then create and schedule it."
- "Log my weight as 74.2 kg this morning."
- "Log 500 ml of water."
- "Rename today's run to 'Easy shakeout' and set the type to running if it isn't."
- "Propose next week's training as a table based on this week's readiness trend. Don't write anything until I approve."
A weekly ritual that works
Sunday evening, one prompt: "Review this week against plan, look at HRV/sleep/readiness, then propose next week as a table." Approve, let it write, sync the watch. Ten minutes, and your training adapts to your life instead of a PDF.
Tips
- If the model answers generically, say "use the Garmin tools" once. It learns.
- Ask for tables when comparing. Models format Garmin data well when told to.
- Dates: "last Tuesday" works because the server has a
todaytool, but ISO dates are unambiguous. - In Claude, put your goals and paces in a Project's instructions so every chat starts informed.
